Catholic Carnival 193: Life, Politics and Prayer

October is a big month this year! It's weeks before the election. It's the month of the Rosary. And it's also the month of Life. This Catholic Carnival tackles all three issues in force. So jump in and enjoy:

Organ-ic Chemist starts us off with Something Missing, which tell of an interesting discussion of what is missing in our lives. The post goes on to recall the writer's return to the Catholic Church.

We keep going with Lectio from a Monastery Chapel and the post The Mysteries of Light. It is a detailed post exploring the Mysteries of Light and offering some help with praying them.

Long-skirts adds a poetic twist with A Spider Web. It tells of a "Damascus epiphany" (like St. Paul's) in the form of a spider web hidden in nature.

Next, Acid42 brings us In the Absence of Farewell. When his priest (and friend) is reassigned, he missed the chance to say goodbye.

Our God is an Awesome God explores Born Alive and Obama through a movie clip. Includes information on 40 Days for Life and more.

Recreating Alexa remembers in To Wash. One small thing can be a reminder of so many things from our past.

As always, Just another day of Catholic pondering is excellent with Life in Harmony. It's a reflection on harmony and balance using a list of inspirational people as a starting off point. Even though it's the 4th week of the retreat, you can read just this post and get a lot of out it!

Army of Martyrs explains why Heretical Doctrines Do Not Develop. Why is it that doctrine develops, but errors don't? This post explains.

Next, Prepare for the Mass takes a multimedia look at the Parable of the Wedding Feast. Think you know all the angles of this Scripture story? You're sure to learn something here.

A Life of Benevolence wonders if there is A Plot to Eliminate Minority Races. This post quotes key abortion advocates and notices racism isn't far from the surface.

HMS Blog brings us back to the Mass with Bearing Fruit. It is a great reflection on the Mass readings from last Sunday with a mention of how they tie into Respect Life Sunday.

Keeping on the theme of Life, Homeschool Goodies gives you some Links of the Month: Holy Rosary. This is the month of the Holy Rosary as well as Respect Life month. Why not begin praying the Rosary with your family today?

Along the same vein (but on the other side), Aggie Catholics answers the question Where Did Evil Come From? Do you know? Even if you do, you might learn something from this post.

Back to politics, A Catholic View explains why Sarah Palin Wins Debate. And to top it off, it includes the Dave Letterman Top 10 list about the debate (I bet that's the first time David Letterman has been in the Catholic Carnival!).

Catholic Matriarch in My Domestic Church adds Scripture into the Presidential race with Ephesians 5 and the Dignity of Women. While the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee might not like Ephesians 5, Pope John Paul II used it to stress the dignity of women. A good post that's worth your time.

The Catholic Journeyman reminds us of God's mercy in Kingdom of Heaven. Based on Sunday's Gospel reading, it challenges you to have faith and believe in God's mercy.

Musings of a Catholic Bookstore brings us back to October and the Rosary. This post explains the historical reason for dedicating October to the Rosary.

Catholic Fire keeps the flame burning with St. Francis of Assisi: A Brief Bio, Writings, Quotes, and Prayers. It's everything you want to know about this great Saint and more.

Deo Omnis Gloria brings up the key issue in What's at Stake, According to Obama. Senator Obama has been clear that abortion is the first issue he will push once he takes office. Is that what we want in a president?

And, for the bloggers reading this, RAGE Media suggests Tips for using PickAFig to Increase Traffic to your Catholic Blog or Website. PickAFig is a Catholic social site (like Digg) that looks pretty interesting.

Also, the Mary Moments Carnival is Calling for Rosary Submissions. Check out the details here and submit your post.

Hope you enjoyed this as much as I have!

God bless,

Jay
