Catholic Carnival 156: Saints, Sin, Politics, and Life
There is a little of everything in this Catholic Carnival - from great information about Saints and Cardinals to incisive looks at our political culture today. I started to organize it more, but it just felt more like life when I left it a little messy. Without any other jibber-jabber, here's the Catholic Carnival:
Spending a Year in Good Company at Just Another Day of Catholic Pondering reflects on Sarah's patron Saints for this year: Sts. Paul and Barnabas. She also includes links to find your patron Saint for this year.
Things I'm Learning from Saint Catherine of Siena at Postscripts from the Catholic Spitfire Grill does just what the title suggests and explores judgmentalism and personal holiness.
What's Intent Got to Do With It? at We Belong to the Lord answers the question with a few examples that perfectly explain. Relativism is everywhere.
Cardinal Arinze: "Stop Ad-Libbing the Mass!" at Contrariwise reflects on a speech about the language in the liturgy by Cardinal Arinze. And the post goes the next step and applies the thoughts to Lindsay's view of the Church.
What Exactly Do They Protest? at The Apostolate of the Laity explains why justification by faith alone just doesn't work.
Resistance to Confession at Eastward, Catholic Soldiers! explores the necessity and effectiveness of individual auricular confession as practiced in the Catholic and Orthodox churches.
Philip Rivers: Part Two at Domestic Vocation continues her comments on Philip Rivers - this post addresses some of the comments made from the first post. If you aren't aware, Philip Rivers is the quarterback of the San Diego Chargers.
What is Wrong with Porn? at Aggie Catholics is an excellent post that explores pornography addiction. This is becoming a huge problem, particularly in the US, and this post does a great job of exploring ways to resist as well as why it is a problem.
Holiness and Culture at HMS Blog reflects on the Mass Readings for last Sunday and how they relate to the anniversary of Roe vs. Wade on January 22.
Why a Catholic can't Support the Death Penalty . . . at Theresa's Two Cents uses Scripture to argue against the death penalty and for a completely pro-life position.
Young Adults Called to be Holy at My Domestic Church asks the age-old question, "How can we get our kids to grow up holy?" And she answers it with examples from her own life and the lives of others.
Did You Hear a Pro-Life Homily Today? at Catholic Matriarch in My Domestic Church did hear a pro-life sermon. And it was more courageous (in our day and time) than we usually hear. Be sure to support your priests when they speak out in defense of the Truth.
Shake it Off at Children & Chocolate and Other Paths to God suggests that the advice we give children ("shake it off") is useful for adults as well. I think we could all use this advice!
Obama: One of the Greatest Performers of All Time at Catholic Fire offers you presidential hopeful Barak's voting record on Christian issues. It asks, "Is Barak Obama Christian?"
Director David Kinsella explains purpose of documentary "Killing Girls" at Catholic Media Review follows the development of abortion in Russia. In particular the film will focus on one abortion clinic that provides late- late-term abortion to girls as young as twelve. The director explains the point of the movie.
Getting to Know Jesus at Kate Wicker explores how motherhood can help get to know Jesus better. And how your children can learn more about Him as well.
And we end back on politics with Is Barak Obama the Angel of Death at Deo Omnis Gloria. This is another YouTube video looking at Barak Obama's record on life issues. As other posts have pointed out, it's abysmal.
Hope you enjoyed!
God bless,
Jay
