Catholic Movies take Center Stage

Just wanted to point out that this year might be remembered as the year religion came back to the movie theaters. Movies are a central part of our culture and because of this they have a unique opportunity to change the culture's thinking on certain topics. For a long time anti-Christians and social liberals have used movies to affect culture in the ways they see fit - making abortion okay, homosexuality a normal state of life, etc. So it's good to see the pendulum swinging back!

Here are a few of the great Christian movies that are about to come to theaters:

The Ten Commandments

Condemned to die by Pharaoh while just a baby, Hebrew Moses is set adrift on the River Nile by his mother and his sister. Rescued by the daughter of Pharaoh, he grows up thinking he's an Egyptian prince.

Eventually exiled from Egypt when he is exposed as a Jew, he is touched by God, and told that he will lead his enslaved Chosen People to the Promised Land. With the hand of God firmly on his shoulder, and with faith as his only weapon, Moses performs miracles, casts down plagues, evades a pursuing Egyptian army, parts the Red Sea and, after forty years of leading the Hebrew Chosen Ones to the Promised Land, is embraced by God and led to a better place.

What makes this version of "The Ten Commandments" unique is that it highlights Moses' family, both real and extended, on this long journey.

Filled with high adventure, the miraculous, and a gentle sense of humor, "The Ten Commandments" showcases Moses, the reluctant prophet, who was the only man in Biblical history to see the face of God and call him 'friend.' See more here.

Bella the Movie

Bella is a romantic drama full of heart, soul and beautiful messages. It tells the story of two people whose lives converge and turn upside down on a single day in New York. A man whose life is about to be changed forever learns that sometimes it takes losing it all to appreciate the things that really matter. See more here.

Noelle the Movie

Father Jonathan Keene - a cold, impatient Catholic priest arrives in a tiny fishing village the week before Christmas to do what he does best: shut down a dying parish. But things take an unexpected turn as he becomes entangled in the various lives of the village's eccentric characters, including their beautiful librarian, the childlike priest he is displacing, and the magical experience of Mrs. Worthington's legendary Christmas Party, where everyone is welcome and anything is possible. See more here.

All have been approved by The Dove Foundation, which only approves family-friendly movies based on Judeo/Christian values. So look for The Dove Foundation's seal when you choose your next movie.

And be sure to support these movies, so that Hollywood keeps putting out great, Christian content!

God bless,
Jay

I havent heard of the Noelle movie Thanks!

I haven't seen NOELLE and I look forward to seeing it because all the religio-political hoopla over it reminds me of when the Anti-Defamation League attacked The Passion of the Christ. I want to enter this dialogue in an intelligent manner.

Terri, you're like the only person out in blogosphere that has anything intelligent to say about this film!

Seriously, how can people blindly take the words of another man without seeing the movie for themselves?

I think those people can learn a lesson from "Doubting Thomas." What he did wasn't bad. He was just saying he's not going to take a man's word for it.

Even St. Peter ran to the tomb to see Christ's empty tomb before he could believe the words of the women that Jesus had risen!

People need to think for themselves! See the movie "Noelle" for themselves, then they can have an INFORMED opinion, not one just shoved down their throat by some dude.

Kudos to your post.

Thinking moviegoer meant me, as I have been posting on "Noelle". I do intend to write my own review, but I posted Bill Donohue's take on it as a source I trust. Here's another review: http://www.commercialappeal.com/news/2007/dec/07/bing-would-balk-at-offkey-christmas-parable/

Dear Sirs,

Flooded Cellar Productions has just released the DVD of their film 'The Return of the Exorcists'. It is a film that looks at the phenomenal increase in the number of people seeking help from exorcists in Italy, and also at the Vatican's push to educate more priests in administering the rite of exorcism. It is a film told entirely from the point of view of exorcists, both American and Italian and also takes in the growing charismatic renewal movement in Italy.

In the words of one recent client, "TO MY DELIGHT, THE DVD IS EXCELLENT IN PRODUCTION AND CONTENT. THE FILM IS FORTUNATELY NOT THE CHEEZY, SENSATIONAL STUFF ONE OFTEN SEES."

The film was also screened at a seminar on exorcism at the London School of Economics, where professor Eileen Barker commented that it was "informative, interesting and well presented" and an "excellent addition" to her seminar. It was also selected for competition at the al Jazeera documentary film festival 2007.

A promo for the film can be seen on our website at http://www.floodedcellar.com/index/documentary/exorcists.html

The film itself is available at http://www.createspace.com/232422

I am happy to send a screener of the film for review purposes.

Many thanks for taking the time to look into our film

Kind regards
Sue Price
