Catholic Carnival 129: Prayer . . . and Spring Break

Not a huge Carnival this week (everyone but you and I are apparently on vacation), but nevertheless the articles are great. It amazes me how many times I get a great idea or God really convicts me while reading a Carnival post. Anyway, without further adieu (or further confessions), here’s the Carnival:

A Prayer to Resist Sexual Temptation starts us off with a punch from You, a Prayerful Conversation. It’s a great post driven by an appearance from Christopher West on Life on the Rock. Our day and age needs more and more of this.

Smells of Summer at just another day of Catholic pondering helps you to stop and smell God’s creation – quite literally! She notes “A prayer can be found anywhere, even in the mundane smells that take me back to summers of old and the smells that define summers for me now.”

Salvation, Service, and Suffering turns excellent Biblical exegesis into a memorable reflection on suffering at HMS Blog. Taking the mass readings from Sunday (7/22), the post explores the salvific meaning of suffering.

Prayer seems to be the theme this week and A Little Prayer Book for Catholic Mothers at My Domestic Church recommends a book full of them – particularly for Moms. Written by A. Francis Coomes, S.J., it seems to include a prayer for every occasion.

Answered prayers are excellent as well. Reflections on the Monastery Visit explores an answered prayer of faith at Transitus Tiber. After a five-day visit to a monastery, she explains her thoughts and feelings about the experience.

Taking the Carnival on a curve, Saturday in the Church at Christus Vincit – the Blog! explores the Saturday evening “anticipated” Mass and asks, “Should it be as high as a Sunday morning mass?” Includes a couple of practical examples that are pretty interesting. What do you think?

Next we move to politics: The Democrat (Abortion) Dilemma – Ask Mary Magdalene: Contraception is Not an Option at Fighting Irish Thomas explores the “solution” Democrats have come up with to help with their Abortion problem among conservative voters. And Mary Magdalene’s example counters with the real way to overcome this problem.

Moving from sin to sanctity, Catholic Fire brings us the story of St. Bridget: Biography, Revelations, Prayers and Promises. It’s a great post that includes a lot of detail on the Saint.

And now, it’s time to smile. Why I Love being Catholic at The World . . . IMHO offers ten reasons why it’s great to be Catholic. And then throws in a beautiful YouTube video on the topic. Great post and the video is excellent is well.

Book Reviews and More has a deal for you: Free Ebooks from S. William Shaw. Recommended as great family books, the post links directly to the free books.

By responding to the Summorum Pontificum, Bishop Morlino prompts thoughts on Obedience. His statement is posted at Catholic Matriarch at My Domestic Church along with thought on the humble obedience shown – in contrast to the ways of our world.

Quietly, we move to Shutting out the Silence at Kyrie Eleison explores our lack of silence today and how it affects us. And it reminds you of how different life was just twenty years ago!

And a story to make the Angels happy: Becoming Catholic: Francis Beckwith’s Reasons at Deo Omnis Gloria. Just a little part of a fascinating interview about why one man (a former Evangelical minister) became Catholic.

This blog offers Modern Day Persecution and Catholic Family Life that explores our societies’ views on children and how we can be an example without saying a word.

Hope you enjoyed this week’s Carnival.

God bless,
Jay
