The Holy Week Catholic Carnival

In the holiest week of the year, I'm glad to host the Catholic Carnival. And this week is no disappointment - lots of great posts from all over. Enjoy:

The Kid Sister of Blessed Imelda starts the week off perfectly with The First Time. As she says, "First Confession for a convert from Protestantism can be tramatic" (I can attest to the honesty of this!). This post offers her thoughts shared with a dear friend.

Peace! Be Still joins in with Oh wow, A Dystopia all of my own. Peace, a first year at the University of Virginia, talks about the troubles of indoctrination on campuses, particularly the U.Va's attack on abstinence, chastity, and true love.

Next, HMS Blog turns the focus to Scripture with In His Kingdom. This post is a reflection on the Gospel and Passion readings for Palm Sunday this year, focusing on what they tell us about the meaning of Jesus' Kingdom.

And as we focus on the interior life during Lent, HerbEly offers us Finding God in a Technical Memo. This excellent post explores our need to find God in work as well as in spiritual places. It's part of his continuing series on workplace spirituality.

Sister Edith at Monastic Musings explores the Desert Fathers in I am in Trouble (Into the Desert for Lent). How do we approach those times when we are in spiritual trouble - or when the way we live our lives has become too much? This post suggests a method through prayer and contemplation, offered in just a few words.

Moving forward to Easter, Catholic Matriarch in My Domestic Church suggests we Welcome One and All this weekend. This post notes that many of the Church's prodigal sons and daughters will be at Mass this Sunday. There are things we can do to make it more likely they will return next Sunday.

Postscripts from the Catholic Spitfire Grill answers a challenge in Priesthood of the Believer. Does the Priesthood of the Believer referred to in Hebrews mean we are not under the authority of an ordained priesthood?

My Domestic Church takes us in another direction with A Philadelphia Catholic in King James' Court. It's a book review of a fiction book I've been eyeing. It teaches the Catholic faith in a way that captures the imagination and heart of the reader in a engaging, thought provoking and even humorous way. Go read the full review.

To make sure we don't miss an important anniversary, Catholic Fire gives us In Memory of Pope John Paul II. It's a tribute to Pope John Paul II on the anniversary of his passing. This post also contains a list of great John Paul II quotes.

Back to Holy Week with The Blog from the Core. His post Holy Week 2007 adds a section for each day of the week - as we hit the day. Keep going back for the full meditations.

Just Another Day of Catholic Pondering looks back with a Reflection on this Lent. It's been "one of those Lents," and Sarah considers just what that means in a letter to God.

A Catholic Life gives us a primer on Liturgical Law and the Coming Pascal Triduum. This post explores the rules around each of the Church services.

Profound Gratitude offers a more humorous and personal take on First Confession. If slight humor mixed with your Sacraments gives you pause, please consider this a warning.

Heart of a Mother moves back into Holy Week with Sunday, April 1, 2007 ~ Palm Sunday of the Lord's Passion. This is a personal testimony of her experience with the song "Watch the Lamb" by Ray Boltz, including links to YouTube videos of the song.

Living Christ's Eucharist in Our Daily Lives continues the focus with Who is Judge? And who is Judged? Father Ben explores John 18 and 19 to see exactly who was judging whom when Jesus was on trial.

Christus Vincit - the Blog reports ZENIT: Nun's Healing Attributed to John Paul II. An ailing nun suffering from Parkinson's disease was healed through the intercession of Pope John Paul II.

A Penitent Blogger reflects on Care for the poor and the glory of God. This post explores prudent stewardship and tangible manifestations of Christian faith and love.

And now for something completely different, Faithful Web looks at another recent holiday with April Fool's Day: Spoofing Hollywood. Offers several April Fool's Day jokes from one parish website.

Fighting Irish Thomas brings us back to our beloved late pope with Here's to you, John Paul II (my hero). This post remembers the two sides of the man who changed the concept of the papacy in the eyes of the world.

Holy Week can be fun, too. So Many Devotions shows us how with H-O-L-Y-W-E-E-K. Using the acronym highlights a few of the symbols of this very important week.

And we end with Deo Omnis Gloria pointing out that Miracles still Happen. This post also looks at the story of the Nun healed through the intercession of Pope John Paul II.

Somehow I missed this one earlier: Book Reviews and More offers some personal Holy Week Reflections - Palm Sunday as we approach the sorrows and celebrations of Holy Week and Easter. How does your Lent affect your Easter celebration?

Hope you enjoyed this as much as I did!

God bless,
Jay
