Catholic Carnival 102: Can you believe it?

It’s hard to believe we’re at 102 Catholic Carnivals – almost two years of great Catholic thought from throughout the blogosphere and it continues to get better. This week is no exception and it runs the gamut on themes, so you’re sure to enjoy (or be challenged by) something. Enjoy:

We start off with a great point about Division Among the Body by THEOdyssey. The post explores the division within Christ’s body and calls for us as Christians to unite.

Next, causa nostrae laetitia offers a Review of “Bella” the movie. Have you seen a great Christian movie lately? Perhaps Bella is the one you should look for.

Now we move on to Italy, since Monastic Musings has just returned and gives us Italian Musings #1: Annunciation by Fra Angelico. It is her thoughts on one of Fra Angelico’s famous frescos – and a post worth contemplating for a while.

As a parent of four still-small children, I can appreciate The Rules of Goo by The Magdalene Diaries. This post explains how the Book of Isaiah reassures this mother of young twins that even in the midst of baby goo, God restores us.

Staying on the topic of family, HMS Blog continues to be excellent with The Sacrament of Matrimony. This post is a reflection on the Mass readings for Sunday (Jan 14) focusing on the institution of the Sacrament of Matrimony at Cana and the meaning of Christian marriage in relation to Christ and the Church as well as to the Trinity.

Not to be outdone, just another day of Catholic pondering blogs about family as well in Children Are a GIFT. She explores how Sarah, a woman not interested in motherhood, changed her views on children.

As Catholics we tend to focus on family and even Happy Catholic’s post touches on the realities of family. However, Our Church, Our Family, Our Fathers points out that when frustrated with the Church sometimes it helps to remember that we are all family. It also includes reviews of four Catholic books.

Martin Luther King day was yesterday and CatholicLand reflects on King’s dream and the silent nightmare we have today in All God’s Children. What is the nightmare? Read the article – it might surprise you.

My Domestic Church also explores a more serious aspect of family in The Ashley Treatment, This Lay Woman’s View. For those unaware, “The Ashley Treatment” refers to a series of controversial medical treatments that a severely disabled girl’s parents developed for her. You can search on Google for more information.

Next, A Penitent Blogger offers another insightful post (they all seem to be) with I am not perfect. It is a short reflection on weakness, patience, and truth in ourselves.

A focus on spirituality continues in Making a Poustinia? at Onionboy:ca. What is a poustinia? It’s not a type of cuisine and it is from the West, but you will have to read the article to really understand.

Catholic Fire follows this with Reviving Your Prayer Life: Entering into the Desert to Adore. The post explains how to revitalize your prayer life by learning to adore God – based on the teachings of Fr. Marie - Dominque Philippe who founded the fastest growing religious community in the world today.

Contrariwise offers us Celibacy, Faith, and Life, which is a response to the Pope's comments on celibacy and the difficulty of living faith publicly. I believe we all can relate.

And we end with Deo Omnis Gloria’s book review of The Catholic Verses by Dave Armstrong. It’s Dave’s latest apologetics book and worth considering – read this post to understand exactly why.

I hope you enjoyed this as much as I did.

God bless,
Jay
