Missing the Big Picture: Online Rent-A-Priests

Frankly, I can't tell you how disappointing it was to see this article about online rent-a-priests (I won't link directly to their website because it would help them gain visibility). To sum up, a website offers the services of priests who have left their priestly duties for one reason or another (looks mainly like problems with celibacy or homosexuality). They will perform marriages that a valid priest would not as well as any other priestly functions, for a fee of course.

Talk about missing the big picture: if you're getting married in such a way that a normal priest won't marry you (divorce, homosexuality, etc), then what's the point of getting a fake priest to do it? Do you really think it gives any legitimacy to the act? You may as well marry yourself and save the money.

It's also disappointing to see another group that calls itself Catholic, but isn't: Celibacy is the Issue. Give me a break! The sixties are over, folks, and the Church is moving on. If you don't like it, you can't fake it!

As John Stossel says, "Give me a break!"

God bless,
Jay

PS - I do ask that we pray both for those using the services of this silly website and for those providing those services. God works in mysterious and unbelievable ways and can bring these groups back into the Catholic Church.
