Catholic Carnival 84: Getting the Number Correct
I believe we’ve finally gotten the number correct, thanks to some help from several who emailed me over it. Now that the number is right, let’s jump right into the Carnival:
The Blog from the Core starts us out on an apologetics note with Duties of Catholics Towards the Protestant View. It is the last of nine lectures by Cardinal Newman in the summer of 1851. Introductory material is here. And it’s very applicable to today.
Just Another Day of Catholic Pondering brings us back to a personal level with One Decade at a Time. The Rosary is a whale of a prayer, so how do real life people pray it, especially daily? One decade at a time! This is good, practical advice for those looking to pray the Rosary during their hectic days.
HMS Blog continues the personal focus with CLEAN HEARTS. It’s a reflection on the Mass readings for Sunday 9/3. The post focuses on the nature of God’s law and the ways in which it challenges us (and how we try to evade that challenge). As always from HMS, it’s a personally challenging and intellectually stimulating look at our lives.
Pondering the Word examines a little-known reality that occurred after Hurricane Katrina in For the Twenty-First Saturday in Ordinary Time. “The foolish of the world shamed the wise.”
My Domestic Church comes back to the family with If mama ain't happy, ain't nobody happy!. She takes another look at this saying and asks, “What does it really say about our culture?”
Herb Ely turns back to our inner selves with Silence vs. Noise. He considers the quote, “Silence is God’s first language” and its apparent conflict for those who must find their spirituality in the world of work.
A Penitent Blogger continues this focus on our lives with Proclaiming in Weakness. It is a meditation on proclaiming the truth of Christ – and the Scripture passages quoted are powerful.
Wheelie Catholic is a new blog you should check out. And it submits Seeking rest . . . , a meditation on seeking rest in God and the obstacles encountered in doing that, such as anger and fear separating us from God's love.
Deo Omnis Gloria brings us back around to apologetics with Five Biblical Proofs that Jesus did not have Brothers. A Scriptural argument that Jesus was (as Catholics know) an only child.
And this blog submits The Talents Are the Truth, Who is Jesus”: A Reflection on Living the Faith. It is a reflection from Pope Benedict XVI.
Hope you enjoyed!
God bless,
Jay
