Catholic Carnival #87

Sorry this is a bit late, but this week was packed with great posts. I started in the order received – and every post was worth reading! I’m continually impressed by the content and this week is no exception. Enjoy:

Not Quite Catholic from Ramblings of a GOP Soccer Mom starts us off with a post on her recent experience attending a baptism at an Episcopal Church. She makes some fascinating points that are worth reading.

Christian Art at Kicking Over My Traces explores how Protestant art differs from Catholic art and why – including a fascinating quote taking us back to Reformation days.

Iconoclastic Controversy Revisited at Teresa’s 2¢ Worth Blog offers a personal reflection on the iconoclastic controversy during the 8th and 16th centuries.

Alabama Improper asks for Rosaries for US Troops and provides more information on how to help. Seems like a great program to get behind.

For the Feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus at Pondering the Word gives Brother Andrew’s personal reflections on the readings for the Feast of Sacred Heart of Jesus. He makes some great points.

Comic Relief at A Song Not Scored for Breathing tells the personal story of a challenging day being interrupted by a challenging message: choose to face what really satisfies instead of that which only leaves one still hungry.

Simplified Immigration Policy: A Poetry Test at ROFT Raft inspires with his poetic approach to the immigration issue.

My Domestic Church offers us a lesson in Civility: The importance of truly listening and reading to what an opposing view says and applying the teachings of Christ.

Use Words If Necessary at SFO Mom asks “What happens when real life gets in the way of the homily?” Answer: It BECOMES the homily.

Part-time Pundit analyzes the precedent set in a recent case in Hollywood to America: You Must Watch Our Smut. In attacking a livable compromise, Hollywood has decided against it's economic interest and opted to stoke the flames of the culture war.

The Blog from the Core gives us Tradition the Sustaining Power of the Protestant View, which is Venerable John Cardinal Newman’s second lecture of Lectures on the Present Position of Catholics in England. Introductory material is here.

Rejection, Weakness, and Power at HMS Blog offers a reflection on last Sunday’s Mass readings, focusing on the importance of not rejecting Jesus and the Church, but being prepared to be rejected ourselves.

Ales Rarus opens up An Exchange on Gay Christians (Part I), which is a discussion between himself and another on the topic.

The Devil Wears Prada: Toxic Leaders, Organizational Hypocrisy & Discernment at HerbEly reviews the film and finds in it a modern allegory about loss of soul and redemption in the corporate world.

God is Not Baal at A Penitent Blogger offers us a reflection on mistaken conceptions of God and on the truth of Christ.

Deo Omnis Gloria points out that the World Summit of Religious Leaders ends with some hope for the future.

And this blog points out that The Bishops are Blogging - commenters pointed out that others even have podcasts.

Hope you enjoyed as much as I did.

God bless,
Jay
