Saying What Needs To Be Said
Several months ago my grandfather passed away. I was fortunate enough to have an opportunity to see him before he died and say many of the things I had always wanted to. Death causes us to pause...to reflect. Life is fleeting...
Christ said:
...For this I was born, and for this I have come into the world, to bear witness to the truth... - Jn 18:37
How many times do we fail to say what needs to be said? How many times do we fail to "bear witness to the truth?" Both of my parents are still alive, thanks be to God, and I have a good relationship with both of them. My loving wife is still alive and we are close. Yet still, I ponder often the fact that sooner or later they, or possibly I, will no longer be here. We are only given this life to speak the truth, to love as Christ loves... How important it is for us to say those things that need to be said! To offer forgiven when it is needed! To say I love you... Each of us is unique, each of us has eternal value. God willed each of us.
Is there anyone in our lives that we alienate or simply tolerate? Let us say what needs to be said. Let us love as Christ loves. Time is short and love is what matters. As St. John wrote:
Beloved, let us love one another; for love is of God, and he who loves is born of God and knows God. He who does not love does not know God; for God is love. In this the love of God was made manifest among us, that God sent his only Son into the world, so that we might live through him. In this is love, not that we loved God but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the expiation for our sins. Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. No man has ever seen God; if we love one another, God abides in us and his love is perfected in us. - 1 Jn 4:7-12
In Christ,
Joe
