Catholic Carnival LI: The Person in the World

Between the world and the Church stands the Human Person. Appropriately so, the posts this week seemed to focus on this tension and how we work with it:

The World

Veritas examines the evidence in Iraq: A Just War? Was the war morally licit according to Church terms?

Kicking Over My Traces wonders if we should be happy for Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes in The Cruise & Holmes Baby News. We are asked to pray.

Our Word and Welcome To It takes a philosophical look at The Relationship of Beauty and Truth. Can there be beauty in that which is untruthful? It depends. But truth is a product of God, and a willful distortion of that truth will, to one extent or another, diminish the beauty of that object.

Pelican Press blogs on current news in Church Says Killing Of Filiberto Ojeda Act Of War. Presbyterian leaders claim the recent killing of nationalist leader Filiberto Ojeda Rios, 72, by the FBI is reminiscent of an act of war, according to the Latin American and Caribbean News Agency.

The Human Person

A Penitent Blogger reflects on the counter-cultural path to real freedom in Obedience of Faith.

Exultet points out that being “in love” resembles the love of Christ in untitled. The post asks: which is more real? The infatuation phase of love or the “realistic” phase? The answer might surprise you.

HMS Blog ponders God’s Promised Feast from Sunday’s Mass readings. “What attitudes should we have toward the things of earth and the things of heaven?”

Rome Coming ponders the use of Jesus Junk in our lives. As a former protestant, I can attest to how perfectly he explains my initial forays into Catholicism!

Living Catholicism offers a meditation on What Marriage and Parenthood teach us about Selfishness.

The Church

On the Other Foot examines why Martin Luther was excommunicated by the Catholic Church by reading the words of Luther in I would have excommunicated him, too. He includes some quotes from Luther – see what you think.

TMH’s Bacon Bits has been staying mostly quiet on the ID vs. E battle. “As a Catholic and a scientist I actually find it hard to rush to the defense of either side.” He explains why in Has “Intelligent Design vs. Evolution” Got You Down?

Quenta Nârwenion commemorates the anniversary of the reception of Venerable John Henry Newman into the Church in On this date, 160 years ago . . . Includes some excellent comments by Ven. John Henry Newman.

Ramblings of a GOP Soccer Mom offers us Some Random Thoughts Late at Night. She gives several interesting thoughts on the nature of the Church and how we perceive it.

Angry in the Great White North points out the latest Church instruction in For Sale: Two Tickets to the Rapture. Should the Bible be taken literally? Read what the Church teaches us.

bearing blog posts a complex article entitled Glass Chalices and Sex Abuse. Should we ignore liturgical disobedience because we have bigger issues?

Deo Omnis Gloria explains What's A Deacon?: The Role of the Diaconate in the Catholic Church.

The Church Online offers Some Ideas for the Vatican Web Site. It’s interesting to see the use of current web design trends in a religious context.

Hope you enjoyed!

God bless,
Jay
