Catholic Carnival XLIV: In Their Own Words
Typically I express my own opinions when hosting the Carnival, assuming my own prerogative. However this week I’ve decided to simply post your own comments on the articles – mainly because several seemed to keenly express the most compelling point made. Without further adieu, the Catholic Carnival:
Gotten, and begotten from bearing blog:
Reading the birth story of a little boy who was conceived via in vitro fertilization and born to a surrogate mother exposes my mixed feelings and confused thoughts about infertility treatments. I try to wrap my mind around the idea that it is possible to violate a human right before that right exists and by the very act that brings that right about.
Teilhard & Blondel from la nouvelle théologie:
Of this meeting between two of the seminal minds of the twentieth century, the distinguished Blondel scholar, J.M. Somerville, has said: 'Together Blondel and Teilhard created the atmosphere that made Vatican II possible, and they seem destined to carry on and justify its best achievements for many decades to come.'
World Youth Days Blogging from An American Housewife:
I have been doing a mini World Youth Day blog-a-thon along with some other Catholic Bloggers. Blogging for World Youth Day has helped me more then I ever thought it would. I wonder if the young people in Germany know they are reaching a 38 year old housewife here in Alabama?
From Sermons Preached on Various Occasions from Quenta Nârwenion:
A quote from a sermon by Venerable John Henry Newman, C.O., on St. Peter, the Papacy, and the Church. [Editor’s intrusion: an excellent post for all Catholics. Now I’m back to silence]
Baptism and Temptation from Crusader of Justice:
An analysis and meditation on the temptation of Christ and what it means for us in our personal lives.
A Pre-Communion Prayer from Our Word and Welcome to It:
What does it mean to love Jesus more than yourself? Here's one way to think of it.
A Challenge to Just War Theorists from HerbEly:
Herb Ely looks at a review of War Powers by Peter Irons and finds some tough problems for advocates of the Just War theory. Under our system of constitutional government the just war criteria of Legitimate Authority is difficult to satisfy. He calls for the Bishops to address the underlying moral issues, but bets that they won’t.
HYPOCRITES!! from A Penitent Blogger:
A reflection on challenges thrown at us by unbelievers and by Christ.
A reflection on last Sunday’s Mass readings, focusing on the importance of Peter’s confession of faith in Jesus.
Proper Devotion to the Mother of God from a guest blogger at Ales Rarus:
As we recently celebrated the Queenship of Mary, I figured it would be a prime time to discuss proper devotion to the Mother of God and common objections regarding excessive devotion or any devotion at all.
The Keys of the Kingdom of God from Deo Omnis Gloria:
In last Sunday’s readings, we started by learning the meaning of the “keys to the kingdom” and finish with Jesus giving them to St. Peter. A quick look at what it all means.
Hope you enjoyed as much as I did. Thanks to all for being a part!
God bless,
Jay
