Catholic Carnival XXIX: Mixed Results
Out of all the Catholic Carnivals I’ve hosted, this is probably the most diverse in subject matter. Typically I try and think of some theme that pulls the posts together, but I found that virtually impossible this week. That being said, this is another excellent roundup of posts, so enjoy:
+ Mom Against the World at A Penitent Blogger reflects on how our struggle against the World isn’t just an apocalyptic struggle.
+ "Ad apsidum" and "Versus populum" are both looking in the wrong direction at From the Anchor Hold takes a practical description about how "ad altare dei" worship works in the practical world, part of the study of Sacrosanctum coucilium, the Vatican II document on the Liturgy.
+ Scars at CowPi Journal argues that "No one gets out of life without a few scars, including God in his Incarnation."
+ Heaven as Fiction at Be Here Mondays asks “how accurate should a story about Heaven be?”
+ The Church’s Prayer for the Spirit at HMS Blog reflects on last Sunday’s readings, focusing on the importance of our prayer for the Spirit in preparation for Pentecost.
+ Bittersweet at Exultet reflects on the [common] intermingling of joy and sorrow.
+ It’s Mother’s Day at Quenta Nârwenion offers us a quote on mothers and their influence by Venerable John Henry Newman.
+ Roses for Mary’s Month at Notes gives us another interesting Java applet for May. It’s my favorite so far . . .
+ The Consecrated Life at Veritas comments on the unique role of the consecrated religious life in the Church.
+ Roman Connections at Crusader of Justice mentions an interesting conversation held over a graduation brunch. BTW – Congrats, Crusader!
+ Kingdom of Heaven: Is Ridley Scott Right about the Crusades? at Deo Omnis Gloria examines the true history of the Crusades.
+ Irish Women Judges Save the Church at HerbEly argues that the judges fighting the pedophilia scandal found help in Cardinal Ratzinger, now Pope Benedict XVI.
+ And we review the book Witness to Hope by George Weigel. It’s a great biography of Pope John Paul II (did that give the conclusion away?)
