Ignatius Press grows . . . Quickly

When I have a little money, I buy books from Ignatius Press, so I've long been a fan of the publisher. They are the "official" publisher of Pope Benedict XVI's books, so they've been doing quite a bit of business recently (last week, 11 of Amazon's top 50 were Ratzinger books). So I found this article on Ignatius very interesting. My favorite points:

Usually Ratzinger's books, most of which are dense, scholarly works, sell about 25,000 copies annually, each printed on expensive, acid-free paper with sewn bindings.

They sold the same amount on Tuesday alone, in the first four hours after the papal announcement.

"We're having to reprint quickly," said Ignatius Press President Mark Brumley. "All the chains are coming out of the woodwork wanting the new pope's books."

And this is why I love Ignatius Press:

Meanwhile, everyone involved with Ignatius Press seems to feel a higher calling lately.

"We feel like we've been blessed, not simply because Cardinal Ratzinger is now pope and we're going to sell a lot of his books, but because we believe this man is a true gift to the world," McCaffrey said. "More people will read his writings and benefit from his spiritual insight."

God bless,
Jay
