Catholic Carnival XX: Silence
This is likely the best Catholic Carnival yet, so I decided to keep silent and let the posts talk:
+ The Anchoress starts us off with an excellent post called The Holiness of BE-ing. She starts by fisking a Newsweek story on Pope John Paul II, then examines his current physical state and why it offends the secular world.
+ HMS Blog uses Sunday’s readings to explain how Christ enlightens us during Lent in The Light of Christ. As always from HMS, this post will make you stop and consider your own actions during Lent.
+ A Penitent Blogger offers us an interesting reflection on Endurance and what it means to the faithful Christian. The Scripture he selected for this post is perfect.
+ Happy Catholic examines the possibility for God to heal our memories in Freeing Our Memories. Sometimes memories can stunt our future, but God can help.
+ Quenta Nârwenion offers up a selection from Venerable John Henry Newman on the selection of David over his brothers (Sunday’s reading) in From Parochial and Plain Sermons. Newman is such a powerful preacher and I think this post conveys that well.
+ North Western Winds does a detailed examination of the traditional Christian idea of man’s place in the world and how he must conduct himself then contrasts that with the view liberalism presents in God’s Will. He uses Rawl’s Original Position for the liberal viewpoint and explains well the problems with this theory.
+ Scattershot starts with a great story in Catholic and Jewish Hearts and explains how it relates to her own life. The story – of Elie Weisel and Francois Mauriac was one I’d never heard, although I think we’re all familiar with the outcome: Weisel’s Night.
+ Herb Ely gives us all something to think about in A Blogger’s Examination of Conscience. Personally, this is an excellent point and one bloggers in particular should be aware of – he also offers a bit of Scripture that we can pray to offset this.
+ Crusader of Justice points out the atrocity committed by a Call toAction leader in Lincoln, Nebraska that occurred in February in Domine Non Sum Dignus?. I heard about this and was stunned.
+ Doxology brings us two related posts this week. The first, The Bishop and the Backbone, asks if priests should refuse communion to politicians who publicly align themselves against Church teachings. The second, Fit for Communion, is a follow-up to the first (based on comments made) and explores the role of repentance in all this.
+ Deo Omnis Gloria explains why a well-known protestant speaker has converted to Catholicism in Interesting Path to Conversion. Budziszewski entered the Church from a different point of view, which makes his conversion more interesting.
+ Finally, I’d like to submit our post, National Geographics’ In the Womb, which looks at the newest National Geographic special on babies, from conception to birth.
God bless,
Jay
