Catholic Carnival XVII: Spiritual Nourishment during Lent
Lent, as a time of preparation, is also a time of personal denial. However, as we travel 40 days in the desert with Christ, we must not neglect our spiritual nourishment. So along those lines, I present a simple Catholic Carnival that is meant to provide just a little of nourishment for your journey.
+ martha, martha starts us off with an intensely personal post named one drop of water. God has put another person in her life that both may refine each other.
+ Times Against Humanity points out that death isn’t always death in “Brain Death,” Not Death, Pontifical Academy Advised. He points out that several Catholic bishops have pointed out organ donation that causes the physical death of the patient is never morally licit. This is an interesting analysis.
+ HMS Blog gives us a meal with Temptation and Life. Beginning with the Catechism, this post examines the relationship between Christ’s 40 days in the desert and his passion and death as well as the importance of joining him in the desert to prepare for Good Friday and Easter.
+ Crusader of Justice starts with brain transplants and moves into sickness, death, medical research, and the human person in Nature of Human Life. It’s a very philosophical and somewhat metaphysical piece that you’re sure to enjoy.
+ My Domestic Church posts thoughts on marriage and love in Outline of our Pre-Cana talk tomorrow. Even those of us with years of marriage under our belts will pick up some great points from these notes!
+ Ales Rarus continues a discussion with Adrian Warnock (a non-Catholic) in Arminian and Catholic Soteriologies, Part Deux . It’s an interesting discussion focused on various aspects of soteriology, with particular mention of Calvinism, Arminianism, and Catholicism.
+ Life Matters! updates us on Terri Schiavo’s legal struggle to stay alive in Will Washington’s Birthday Find Terri Starving? This is an important fight in the struggle to keep Euthanasia illegal, so take a minute and get updated.
+ HerbEly also focuses on Lent in The "Three P's": Basic Temptations in the Desert. The post examines how fasting, almsgiving, and prayer can overcome the “3 P’s” (read the post and you’ll understand).
+ Catholics in the Public Square takes a closer look at a fascinating convert to Catholicism from Hinduism in Congressman Bobby Jindal – Catholic Apologist? The first Indian-American elected to Congress in 50 years provides a great example for all of us.
+ A Penitent Blogger reflects on the relationship between our fathers and our Father in Pater qui est in caelis. Poignant thoughts, especially during this time of year.
+ Deo Omnis Gloria points out that Dawn Eden became a victim of the culture war in our country in Pro-Life Blogger Fired from New York Post. I’m surprised I haven’t read more about this.
+ I hope you aren’t full yet: Blog from the Core brings us full circle to focus on Lent (as we end our spiritual nourishment) in Newman: Lent II. We are given a sermon from Venerable John Henry Newman for this week as well as several additional sermons on Lent for those with a bigger spiritual appetite. All are worth the few minutes it would take to read them.
And we submit The Suffering of Pope John Paul II a post on Peggy Noonan’s article about the Pope’s suffering. Like a good Sunday meal, now it’s time to sit back and reflect on God’s goodness in providing for us. I hope you have enjoyed the Carnival as well.
By the way, if you are a Catholic blogger and interested in receiving the call for submissions, just drop me an email at jay@livingcatholicism.com.
God bless,
Jay
