The Catholic Carnival #12: Strong in Faith

Welcome to the newest Catholic Carnival. This one starts out strong and keeps going! I find it fascinating how varied the content of one post is from another – it just points toward our rich heritage within the Catholic Church.

+ My Domestic Church starts out with an analysis of the claim that “poorly catechized = progressive” or even that “well catechized = conservative.” I love what she points out about the Saints.

+ At The Blog from the Core we can read an excellent meditation by Ven. Louis of Granada, O.P. on Love in Coldness in the Fire. Short and very insightful.

+ In perhaps the oddest reality of the week (at least for me), Santificarnos examines a misguided movement in Potheads for Christ?. I always cringe when I see someone completely misunderstand Scripture and then point out that they “grew up Catholic.” Let’s pray they find prayer to be a true “spiritual enhancer.”

+ Doxology offers two poignant posts for your perusal. The first is No Regrets and examines the thoughts of the man who brought abortion to Canada. Apparently this post didn’t make those in favor of abortion happy, so she responded with Calgary Grit: My Response. In the second article she is forced to defend herself from personal attacks and explain the pro-life position to one not inclined to believe it (it’s interesting to see how she builds a logical argument that is not faith-based).

+ Ever had a quasi-religious discussion with a non-Christian? I think we all have. A Penitent Blogger examines how we should express ourselves using the Epistle to the Hebrews and Dominus Jesus in There is No Other One. I think often we forget our role out of kindness, but this post clears up exactly our obligation.

+ Quenta Nârwenion brings music to the Catholic Carnival in Music from the Noon Mass. She lists the music sung at the noon mass including the beautiful words of the Offertory and links to more information about the author.

+ In keeping our focus on the liturgy, HMS Blog takes a look at the readings on the Feast of the Baptism of the Lord in The Victory of Justice. He explains how baptism becomes an initiation into Trinitarian love using the readings – insightful points on the Baptism of Christ in particular.

+ HerbEly fisks a WaPo article in Meditation changes Brain Structure. The article focuses on Buddist monks, but Catholic meditation would have the same effect. He points out that the benefit is to old and young alike.

+ DeoOmnisGloria is largely an apologetics blog, so they looked at a recent article suggesting that protestants are changing their views on the role of Mary in Are Protestants Re-examining Mary? The article gave some interesting evidence that protestant churches are moving closer to the Catholic position on the Blessed Virgin’s role in our lives.

+ Finally, LivingCatholicism adds a simple post to round out the Carnival: His Number: A Pro-Life Poem. It’s an intimate look at the value of life.

I hope this Carnival leaves you a little more filled in the spiritual sense than when you arrived. It is an interesting group of posts that provide different takes on the Catholic experience.

May God continue to bless you and yours.

God bless,
Jay

UPDATE: I accidentally missed one entry this week - Sorry!
+ Notes pleads for the unbaptized in Holy Innocents. Baptism washes away original sin and nothing unclean can enter heaven, so we can only hope in the mercy of God in some of these cases.
