Plenary Indulgences during the Year of the Eucharist

This is the Year of the Eucharist when we should be working to specially note the Eucharist in our lives. And the Pope is working to encourage special devotions this year by granting some plenary indulgences. Now, if you either participate in the veneration of the Eucharist or say Vespers and night prayers before the tabernacle, you receive a plenary indulgence.

In other words, you’ll be free from the temporal punishment due to sin. It does require confession, praying for the intentions of the Holy Father, and being free from all attachment to sin. However, it’s just one more incentive to spend time in front of the Eucharist, particularly in Eucharist devotion.

Personally, I used to be close enough to a church that had continuous Eucharistic adoration and was able to go once a week and spend an hour (such a short amount of time) in front of the Blessed Sacrament. This was by far one of the most rewarding ways to grow closer to Christ and I was blessed in many, many ways. Currently, I don’t have access (the difference between Florida and Georgia!), but I do highly recommend it even without the indulgence.

God bless,
Jay
