The Eighth Catholic Carnival: Faith, Hope, and Charity

We have an excellent and varied Catholic Carnival for you this week. I’ve decided to organize the posts in line with the theological virtues this week: Faith, Hope, and Charity. Pull up a chair and increase your faith, hope and charity through the words of St. Blog’s Parish:

FAITH
Faith is the theological virtue by which we believe in God and believe all that he has said and revealed to us, and that Holy Church proposes for our belief, because he is truth itself. CCC 1814.

In Authority, A Penitent Blogger examines what we can learn about authority from stories of kings, elders, priests, and donkeys. The pointed ending is excellent and insightful.

Deo Omnis Gloria explores the belief that Mary is hardly mentioned in the Bible in The Blessed Virgin Mary and the Bible. To the dismay of many, Scripture is filled with discussions of Mary and who she is.

Lord, I believe. Help my unbelief

HOPE
Hope is the theological virtue by which we desire the kingdom of heaven and eternal life as our happiness, placing our trust in Christ’s promises and relying not on our own strength, but on the help of the grace of the Holy Spirit. CCC 1817.

HMS Blog teaches Joyful Patience, which is a intimate meditation on the readings on Gaudete Sunday this year.

Do we expect Hollywood to acknowledge Gibson’s The Passion of the Christ? Do we want them to? The Blog from the Core takes a fresh look in Hollywood and the Passion of the Christ.

Pencils Down asks, “If we don't take notes during bad masses, how can we report abuses?” And notes that if we can't report abuses, they may not be corrected. Ales Rarus examines the role of the laity in these problems.

Lord, I await your coming. Help me to be prepared

CHARITY
Charity is the theological virtue by which we love God above all things for his own sake, and our neighbor as ourselves for the love of God. CCC 1822.

Notes tells a beautiful story of healing in A Sign of Peace. In the wake of PanAm flight 103, God uses a child to help heal a sorrowful mother. Last is definitely not least.

Lord, I love you. Help my lack of love

Hope this inspires you this Advent season. May our Lord Jesus Christ come soon.

God bless,
Jay

I have a suggestion for the next Catholic Carnival theme. Jollyblogger (the nice Protestant fellow who first inspired in the me the strong desire for a carnival for Catholics) is calling for submissions for the second Carnival of the Reformation. I t... [Read More]
