The Third Catholic Carnival

Welcome to the Third Catholic Carnival! This week I’ll start out with something a little different and move on through personal responsibility, political issues, and “simpletons.”

Notes posts a Java applet on the theme of martyrdom in Crosses. The included Scripture is perfectly suited to the applet.

Julie at Happy Catholic discusses the attitude some take toward converts that actually believe Church truths in On Being a Convert and Believing Church Truths. As a convert myself I’ve been in exactly the situations she describes!

Quenta Narwenion includes a ‘taste’ and a link to a Venerable John Henry Newman serman on personal responsibility for our choices in On November 4, 1832. This was before his conversion to Catholicism and an excellent analysis of Genesis, man, and more.

Heart, Mind, and Strength (HMS) Blog in Rising in Christ explains what last Sunday’s readings teach us about the practical ramifications of resurrection for our own lives. We are all resurrected in the end, so what does that mean for us now as we live our lives?

Santificarnos examines Rocco Buttiglione’s statement suggesting that the emphasis on modernity has been checked in the US in ”Of God and Men,” and Is Modernity on decline in US?. Buttiglione is the Italian Minister of European Affairs who was forced to withdraw his candidacy for the European Justice and Home Affairs Commissioner because of his religious views. The article also contrasts how religion is viewed in the EU and in the US.

DeoOmnisGloria points out that those supporting the culture of life have an immediate issue in Not Arlen Specter: Another fight for Pro-Lifers. Senator Specter is threatening to hold up pro-life judicial nominees and it’s up to us to stop him.

I thought I would finish with one of our posts on the holiday season and our families. In Preparing for the holiday season we offer some ideas for keeping the focus on God.

Next week’s Fourth Catholic Carnival will be held at Dunmoose the Ageless, Protomonk’s Blog. Look for the Call for Submissions this weekend (email me at jay [at] LivingCatholicism [dot] com to be added to the notification list). Thanks to everyone participating.

God bless,
Jay
