The Fifth Catholic Carnival
Last week, Dunmoose raised the bar on the Catholic Carnival, so I’ll keep it going . . . in a slightly different way. I’m one of those “Catechism-nuts” and I thought it would be great to relate the posts to the Catechism with some explanation as to why (this gets a little difficult with the political posts, but I think it still works). And without futher ado, here’s the Fifth Catholic Carnival:
PART ONE: The Profession of Faith
This section of the Catechism focuses on who God is, how we can know Him, and what His Church is for.
Quenta Narwenion starts us off with some excellent thoughts in (and on) The Solemnity of our Lord Jesus Christ the King by Venerable John Henry Newman.
Heart, Mind, & Strength (HMS) blog includes thoughts on what it means to have Christ as King in ”Jesus, remember me when you come into your Kingdom”. A good post that might make you examine your life once again.
Father Micheal at From Among the Exiles includes his Sunday homily in Christ the King. He focuses on the Luke passage and gives some great advice for living out your faith.
Ales Rarus engages in a blog-to-blog debate over atheism in Foaming at the Mouth. This is a pretty good debate that continues here and here. Worth reading – it’s good preparation for speaking of the faith to outsiders.
PART TWO: The Celebration of the Christian Mystery
The next part of the Catechism explains the Liturgy and the Sacrament in wonderful detail.
Fructus Ventris muses about Liturgical music in Music and Meaning. Think the Liturgical music is just a sideshow of the Mass? Alicia explores the truth about music in the Mass.
PART THREE: Life in Christ
The Catholic Catechism gets practical in part three with an analysis of our role and our moral obligations; Sin and the Ten Commandments, in other words.
A Penitent Blogger offers a humble post on Revelation 10:8-11 in Good news . . . Bad news . . . . Our experiences in our faith can be both good and bad, this post explores why.
Santificarnos gets very practical in Update on the Madrid Terrorist Bombings: ETA & Islamic terrorist link. This is a perfect example of what happens when the Church’s morality isn’t followed.
DeoOmnisGloria.com explains the truth of contraception in Birth Control and God: Is Contraception Bad? The Catechism even makes an obligatory appearance in this post.
PART FOUR: Christian Prayer
This part of the Catechism is actually self-explanatory . . . but everyone should read it. Now. Go read now.
Notes offers another excellent applet in Jesus Prayer. Simple, but extremely effective.
And to finish, I include our post on The Importance of a Family Litany. Often people overlook the power of praying a Litany based on your family’s hobbies or interests. I explain how to start here.
CONCLUSION
Now we end up in the Index of Citations, which I’ll substitute for a conclusion. Thanks to everyone for their submissions, this was an excellent roundup of posts.
Remember, we’re always looking for those interested in hosting the Catholic Carnival – it’s more interesting if it moves around. Even if you’ve hosted before, consider doing so again. Email me at jay [at] LivingCatholicism [dot] com to host or to be included in the Call for Submissions that goes out every week. Hope you enjoyed it!
God bless,
Jay
UPDATE: The next Catholic Carnival will be hosted at Happy Catholic. Call for submissions will come out this weekend.
